The interior was gutted and the roof removed, leaving only the exterior walls and interior floors. The hand-painted murals and pioneer craftsmanship were lost, and the progressive muraled rooms were replaced with stationary rooms equipped for film. President Kimball, who rededicated the building, regretted the loss.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e1979: reopened after a public open house that drew 213,184 guests against an expected 90,000.
