Our Story
Our Story
Peculiar People started in 2023 while I was serving a mission in San Antonio, Texas. The name comes from Peter's description of the Saints as "a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people" — members who keep their covenants without making a show of it, and are fine looking a little old-fashioned for it.
We make apparel with original line art of Latter-day Saint temples, made one temple at a time and printed on heavier, better-made garments. Most members want to talk about the gospel but don't know how to open the door. A shirt someone asks about is an easier start than a knock on one.

The Hoodie
You put on a Peculiar People hoodie because it reminds you why we're all here. Because that building is where you were sealed to your spouse, where you got an answer to a prayer you'd been carrying for years, where you first felt something you couldn't explain away. A stepping stone. A day you'll never forget.
You put it on because you want to share that with someone. Because gospel conversations are hard to start. Harder than they were on your mission, when the whole day was built around them.
It's the new white shirt and tie. The new dress. The new name tag you don't need a calling to wear. A hoodie you may even feel prompted to wear some days.
That's why I started this company. It doesn't take much for someone who has been prepared to tap you on the shoulder and ask a question that changes the direction of their life. No argument, no pitch, no lesson plan. Just an opening.
And you keep it on because it's premium heavyweight fleece with a ringspun cotton face, garment-dyed to that soft, worn-in vintage look you'd wear even if it said nothing at all.

Under construction. The public open house runs through , excluding Sundays, and admission is free with no reservation required. Dedication is scheduled for .
Location
555 Temple View Lane, Cody, Wyoming. A 4.69-acre site northwest of Skyline Drive at Cody Canal, in the northwestern corner of the state near the Montana border, at an elevation of 5,134 feet with Heart Mountain on the horizon.
Temple Number
The third temple built in Wyoming, following Star Valley in 2016 and Casper in 2024. Its number among dedicated temples will be fixed at dedication.
Announced
, by President Russell M. Nelson, at the October 2021 general conference, among thirteen temples announced that session.
Groundbreaking
. Elder Steven R. Bangerter, First Counselor in the North America Central Area Presidency, presided and offered the site dedicatory prayer. Elder Kevin R. Duncan, Executive Director of the Temple Department, also attended.
Architecture
A single-story building of 9,950 square feet, 101 feet to the top of the spire. The exterior is precast concrete panels. A single attached central tower rises as a multi-tiered steeple capped with a gold pyramidal spire. The official exterior rendering was released .

One instruction room, one sealing room, and one baptistry.
Construction Story
- The site was announced in March 2023 as an empty field northwest of Skyline Drive, roughly seventeen months after the temple itself was announced.
- Modular construction methods carried the project at unusual speed, with the exterior essentially finished about eighteen months after work began.
- In his site dedicatory prayer, Elder Bangerter asked a blessing on the surrounding community rather than only on the Church membership, praying that neighbors would feel a spirit of peace and that the temple's presence would bring added joy, prosperity, beauty, and unity to their lives.
Symbolism & Design
- The gold pyramidal spire replaces the angel Moroni statue found on many older temples, a choice increasingly common among the small single-story temples built in this era.
- At 9,950 square feet, Cody is built to the scale of its community rather than to the scale of a regional temple. The single instruction room and single sealing room are the design's honest statement about who it is for.
Trivia
- Nearly 67,000 Latter-day Saints live in Wyoming, meeting in more than 170 congregations, roughly one in every nine residents of the state.
- Members in northwest Wyoming currently travel to the Billings Montana Temple. Cody will end that drive for them.
- Cody is already home to the Historic Cody Mural and Museum, a Church meetinghouse whose domed ceiling carries a large mural depicting the Restoration and the westward migration. The chapel and visitors' center are open to the public during summer months.
- Wyoming's pioneer connection is not incidental. Latter-day Saint companies crossed the state throughout the 1840s to 1860s on their way to the Salt Lake Valley.

I get this one a lot, and I thought about it before I drew the first one. These are architectural drawings of a building, not anything that happens inside it. No slogans, nothing that turns the temple into a punchline. If you'd put a framed temple photo in your living room, this is that same idea on cotton.

Our goal with our clothing is for it to be seen. Which means it also needs to be your go-to comfort clothing.
It's made to be the first thing you grab when you want to be comfortable, and the first clothing you'll be prompted to wear.

Our prints are made to last. To esure No bleach, and no fabric softener, which coats the fibers and dulls the print over time. Don't iron over the design. You can wash it before the first wear to get the loose surface dye off, but you don't have to.

It's a men's cut. If you normally wear a women's medium, order a small for a fitted look or a medium if you want it roomier. The size guide video shows a woman at 5'9" in a small and a man at 6'4" in a large.
