Peculiar People started in 2023 while I was serving a mission in San Antonio, Texas. The name comes from Peter's description of the Saints as "a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people" — members who keep their covenants without making a show of it, and are fine looking a little old-fashioned for it.

We make apparel with original line art of Latter-day Saint temples, made one temple at a time and printed on heavier, better-made garments. Most members want to talk about the gospel but don't know how to open the door. A shirt someone asks about is an easier start than a knock on one.

The Tee

You put on a Peculiar People shirt because it reminds you why we're all here. Because that building is where you were sealed to your spouse, where you got an answer to a prayer you'd been carrying for years, where you first felt something you couldn't explain away. A stepping stone. A day you'll never forget.

Ephraim Utah Temple

Status
Under construction. The public open house runs through , excluding Sundays, following a media day on . Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is scheduled to dedicate the temple on , in a single 10:00 a.m. session broadcast to all units in the temple district.

Location
Ephraim, Utah. The temple stands on a 9.16-acre site at 400 East and 200 North, at an elevation of 5,567 feet in the Sanpete Valley. Ephraim is Sanpete County's largest population center and the home of Snow College.

Temple Number
The second temple in Sanpete County, following the Manti Utah Temple, dedicated in 1888. Its number among the Church's dedicated temples will be fixed at its dedication.

Announced
, by President Russell M. Nelson in a prerecorded message shown at a press conference inside the Manti Tabernacle, the same event at which the Church announced revised renovation plans for the Manti Utah Temple.

Groundbreaking
. President Russell M. Nelson presided, accompanied by Sister Wendy Nelson, Elder Walter F. González, and Elder Kevin R. Duncan. Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox and other government leaders participated.

Architecture
A three-story temple of approximately 39,000 square feet. The exterior features large arched windows and an arched entry, with a multilevel octagonal tower topped by a domed cupola.

Ordinance Rooms
Four instruction rooms seating 30 each, three sealing rooms, and a baptistry.

Construction Story
  • The temple began with a change of plans seven miles away. President Nelson said that shortly after the April 2021 general conference he received "very clear instruction" that the pioneer craftsmanship of the Manti Utah Temple should be preserved rather than replaced in renovation, and that a new temple should be built in Ephraim to serve the area alongside it.
  • President Nelson presided at the groundbreaking in person as an unannounced guest. "We are deeply grateful for our ancestors," he said at the site. "They have laid a foundation of faith that undergirds our spiritual strength."
  • The prophet's own family is part of that foundation. "My dear mother was born in Ephraim, not far from this very temple site. My father was born in Manti," he said at the groundbreaking. Three of his four grandparents were born in Ephraim, and all eight of his great-grandparents lived there, converts to the Church from England, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.

Symbolism & Design
  • The central octagonal tower carries four arched windows at its base and eight on the tower itself, echoing the arched windows that wrap the body of the building.

Trivia
  • Latter-day Saint settlers first entered the Sanpete Valley in the fall of 1849, and Ephraim was settled in 1854, primarily by Scandinavian immigrant converts. The valley's first stake was organized in 1877.
  • The temple shares its scheduled dedication day, , with the Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala Temple.

Is it appropriate to wear a temple on a shirt?

I get this one a lot, and I thought about it before I drew the first one. These are architectural drawings of a building, not anything that happens inside it. No slogans, nothing that turns the temple into a punchline. If you'd put a framed temple photo in your living room, this is that same idea on cotton.

No. We are an independent company. Peculiar People is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Our goal with our clothing is for it to be seen. Which means it also needs to be your go-to comfort clothing.

It's made to be the first thing you grab when you want to be comfortable, and the first clothing you'll be prompted to wear.

Our prints are made to last. To esure No bleach, and no fabric softener, which coats the fibers and dulls the print over time. Don't iron over the design. You can wash it before the first wear to get the loose surface dye off, but you don't have to.

It's a men's cut. If you normally wear a women's medium, order a small for a fitted look or a medium if you want it roomier. The size guide video shows a woman at 5'9" in a small and a man at 6'4" in a large.
