Peculiar People started in 2023 while I was serving a mission in San Antonio, Texas. The name comes from Peter's description of the Saints as "a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people" — members who keep their covenants without making a show of it, and are fine looking a little old-fashioned for it.

We make apparel with original line art of Latter-day Saint temples, made one temple at a time and printed on heavier, better-made garments. Most members want to talk about the gospel but don't know how to open the door. A shirt someone asks about is an easier start than a knock on one.

From the Founders

You wear Peculiar People because it reminds you of an important moment. The day you got married, where you got an answer to a prayer you needed answered, where you first felt something you couldn't explain away.

Every design we make is made to do two things:

  1. Remind you of something special to you
  2. Prompt others to ask you about it

In order for this to work, our clothing needs to be the first thing you reach for, which is why we have worked hard to ensure our fabrics, build quality, and prints are premium and extremely comfortable.

The more you wear, the more you share. All it takes is one question. "What's that on your shirt?"

Coeur d'Alene Idaho Temple

Status
Under construction. Ground was broken on , and by late September crews were excavating, installing water and drainage lines, and forming the foundation. No open house or dedication dates have been announced.

Location
Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on a 10.91-acre site at the corner of Hanley Avenue and Coeur Terre Boulevard, on the western side of the city, at an elevation of 2,273 feet. A meetinghouse and an ancillary building will share the grounds.

Temple Number
The tenth temple announced for Idaho and the first in the northern part of the state. Its number among dedicated temples will be fixed at dedication.

Announced
, by President Russell M. Nelson in the concluding session of the October 2024 general conference, one of 17 temples announced that day.

Groundbreaking
. Elder Hutch U. Fale, a General Authority Seventy serving in the United States West Area Presidency, presided and offered the dedicatory prayer on the site. It was the sixth temple groundbreaking held that month.

Architecture
A single-story temple of approximately 29,630 square feet with a single attached central spire. The exterior rendering was released , the same day the site was announced.

Ordinance Rooms
Planned: two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry.

Construction Story

  • The site was first planned for townhomes. In December 2025 the Coeur d'Alene City Council unanimously amended the Coeur Terre development agreement, changing the 10.91 acres in its master plan from "Urban Townhomes" to "Religious Assembly."
  • The city's Design Review Commission approved the temple and meetinghouse plans in March 2026 with conditions. Exterior lighting drew public concern, and the approval left the architectural lighting to be worked out between the city and the design firm.
  • Grading and underground utilities for water, sewer, and electrical service began in May 2026, more than three months before the ceremonial shovels came out.
  • Elder Fale's prayer at the groundbreaking played on the work itself, asking that "the softening of this soil this day" lead to the softening of many hearts.

Trivia

  • When it was announced, the closest temple was the Spokane Washington Temple, about 20 miles west across the state line.
  • The groundbreaking speakers came from four north Idaho stakes: Post Falls, Hayden Lake, Sandpoint, and Bonners Ferry.
  • The 17 temples announced alongside Coeur d'Alene brought the Church's count of temples operating, announced, or under construction to 367. Price, Utah, and Milan, Italy, were on the same list.
  • One of the groundbreaking speakers, 17-year-old Edyn Beesley of the Post Falls Idaho Stake, had been baptized at 16. After her first temple visit, she said, she told her dad "it felt like coming home."

FAQ

I get this one a lot, and I thought about it before I drew the first one. These are architectural drawings of a building, not anything that happens inside it. No slogans, nothing that turns the temple into a punchline. If you'd put a framed temple photo in your living room, this is that same idea on cotton.

No. We are an independent company. Peculiar People is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Our goal with our clothing is for it to be seen. Which means it also needs to be your go-to comfort clothing.

It's made to be the first thing you grab when you want to be comfortable, and the first clothing you'll be prompted to wear.

Our prints are made to last. To make sure they do, use no bleach and no fabric softener, which coats the fibers and dulls the print over time. Don't iron over the design. You can wash it before the first wear to get the loose surface dye off, but you don't have to.

It's a men's cut. If you normally wear a women's medium, order a small for a fitted look or a medium if you want it roomier. The size guide video shows a woman at 5'9" in a small and a man at 6'4" in a large.

Original line art, made here, one temple at a time. Every drawing gets checked against verified references before we add it to our collection.

Yes. Ward and stake temple trips, mission reunions, family reunions. Email support@peculiarpeopleco.com with the temple, the garment, and roughly how many people, and I'll get back to you with a price.

An SVG of the temple line art for $4.95. Same drawing that goes on the shirts. It's a vector, so it scales to any size without going soft at the edges, and it opens in Cricut, Illustrator, Figma, or anything else that reads vectors.
