Peculiar People started in 2023 while I was serving a mission in San Antonio, Texas. The name comes from Peter's description of the Saints as "a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people" — members who keep their covenants without making a show of it, and are fine looking a little old-fashioned for it.

We make apparel with original line art of Latter-day Saint temples, made one temple at a time and printed on heavier, better-made garments. Most members want to talk about the gospel but don't know how to open the door. A shirt someone asks about is an easier start than a knock on one.

The Sweatshirt

You put on a Peculiar People sweatshirt because it reminds you why we're all here. Because that building is where you were sealed to your spouse, where you got an answer to a prayer you'd been carrying for years, where you first felt something you couldn't explain away. A stepping stone. A day you'll never forget.

You put it on because you want to share that with someone. Because gospel conversations are hard to start. Harder than they were on your mission, when the whole day was built around them.

It's the new white shirt and tie. The new dress. The new name tag you don't need a calling to wear. A sweatshirt you may even feel prompted to wear some days.

That's why I started this company. It doesn't take much for someone who has been prepared to tap you on the shoulder and ask a question that changes the direction of their life. No argument, no pitch, no lesson plan. Just an opening.

And you keep it on because it's premium heavyweight fleece with a ringspun cotton face, garment-dyed to that soft, worn-in vintage look you'd wear even if it said nothing at all.

Size Guide

Smithfield Utah Temple

Status
Under construction, with major construction complete and crews finishing the interior; furnishings began arriving in spring 2026. Dates for the public open house and dedication have not yet been announced. Michael L. Staheli and Linda A. Staheli of the Smithfield Utah North Stake were called in March 2026 as the temple's first president and matron.

Location
Smithfield, Utah. The temple stands on a 13.3-acre site at 800 West and 100 North in northern Cache Valley, at an elevation of 4,506 feet, roughly seven miles from the Logan Utah Temple.

Temple Number
The second temple in Cache County, following the Logan Utah Temple, dedicated in 1884. Its number among the Church's dedicated temples will be fixed at its dedication.

Announced
, by President Russell M. Nelson during the 191st Annual General Conference, one of 20 temples announced that day.

Groundbreaking
. Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles presided and dedicated the site, with Elder Gary E. Stevenson conducting. About 600 people attended in person, and the ceremony was broadcast to the 13 stakes of the temple district.

Architecture
A three-story temple of approximately 81,000 square feet. The exterior features columns of arched windows and arched entryways, with a tall domed cupola near the front of the building and a smaller dome at the opposite end.

Ordinance Rooms
Four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and two baptistries.

Construction Story
  • Ground was broken by two Apostles who grew up in Cache Valley. Elder Cook and Elder Stevenson are both Utah State University graduates, and Elder Cook told the gathering that the valley "always feels like home to me. It is among the most beautiful places on earth."
  • In the site dedicatory prayer, Elder Cook prayed that the temple would become "a beacon light for the communities it serves" and gave thanks "for those who have gone before us."
  • The temple rises on ground the LaMont Poulsen family farmed for more than 160 years before it became a temple site.
  • The main dome was set in June 2024 and the rear cupola that August; exterior stonework was substantially complete by the end of 2024.

Symbolism & Design
  • The arch is the building's repeating motif: columns of arched windows wrap the exterior and arched entryways frame the entrance, beneath the temple's two domes.

Trivia
  • Cache County has the second-highest concentration of Latter-day Saints of any Utah county, at about 64 percent of residents.
  • At 81,000 square feet, the temple matches the floor area of the Lindon Utah Temple exactly.

Is it appropriate to wear a temple on a shirt?

I get this one a lot, and I thought about it before I drew the first one. These are architectural drawings of a building, not anything that happens inside it. No slogans, nothing that turns the temple into a punchline. If you'd put a framed temple photo in your living room, this is that same idea on cotton.

No. We are an independent company. Peculiar People is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Our goal with our clothing is for it to be seen. Which means it also needs to be your go-to comfort clothing.

It's made to be the first thing you grab when you want to be comfortable, and the first clothing you'll be prompted to wear.

Our prints are made to last. To esure No bleach, and no fabric softener, which coats the fibers and dulls the print over time. Don't iron over the design. You can wash it before the first wear to get the loose surface dye off, but you don't have to.

It's a men's cut. If you normally wear a women's medium, order a small for a fitted look or a medium if you want it roomier. The size guide video shows a woman at 5'9" in a small and a man at 6'4" in a large.
